After receiving his MBA from New York University in 1979, Marc Belzberg gained extensive business experience in finance while working on Wall Street for Salomon Brother’s Mergers and Acquisitions Department and then as Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Oppenheimer & Co. Marc Belzberg then opened the office of the Belzberg family interests in New York in 1983, becoming the first President of First City Capital Corporation.
While at First City Capital, Marc Belzberg managed the risk arbitrage department, the Japanese arbitrage department, the foreign currency hedging and trading units and the undervalued stock investment group, generating profits of over $500mm for the group over a 5 year period.
In 1984, Marc Belzberg won the first national license to provide cellular telephone service in Canada before any US licenses had been granted. The Belzberg family of Canada owned 40% of the consortium together with Rogers Cable Systems of Canada and Telemedia. Soon after the reward of the license, Ameritech invested $20mm in the company in exchange for a 20% interest. In 1990, the Belzberg family sold their stake in the company for $230mm.
Marc Belzberg moved to Israel in 1992 and became very active in the local business community as well. He has since invested in some of Israel’s most promising companies, marketing technologically innovative products worldwide.
Marc Belzberg is the Executive Chairman of ODF Optronics, Ltd. and Wave.
Marc Belzberg is a partner in the Venture Capital firm of Meditech Advisors, which invests in Medical Devices through its Seventy Million Dollar Fund, ZEMP.
In addition to Marc Belzberg’s many and varied investments in multiple industries in Israel and abroad, Marc Belzberg is also deeply committed to philanthropy in Israel and abroad. Among the projects Marc Belzberg has built and guided is OneFamily, an organization established by Marc Belzberg to provide assistance to terror victims and their families in Israel. OneFamily has provided over $20mm of financial and emotional support to over 2,500 victims of terror and their families for their immediate and long-term needs.
Marc Belzberg also serves as the Chairman of the Board of World Bnei Akiva, the largest Jewish youth movement in the world, with 50,000 young members in 35 countries and he is also the Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Jewish Renaissance, an organization dedicated to raising Jewish identity in Israel and all Jewish communities around the world. Today, over 250,000 children in over 19 countries participate on a weekly basis in the programs of the Foundation for Jewish Renaissance.
Marc Belzberg sits on the Board of Directors of the Simon Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance with branches in Los Angeles, New York, France and Jerusalem. Marc Belzberg is a former Director of the Jerusalem Post.
